Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was a child prodigy. For a child with Irish roots, surrounded as her by talented parents and family was naturally gifted, it came as a natural. Maureen made her entrance into the safe haven of her parents on August 17, 1920, in Ranelagh (a suburb within Dublin), Ireland. Her mother, Marguerita Lililburn FitzSimons a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based firm and also owned a stake in "The Shamrock Rovers," a renowned Irish soccer team. Maureen FitzSimons was the child of Charles FitzSimons. Peggy, Florrie Charles B. Fitzsimons Margot Fitzsimons completed this lovely family. Maureen did well as a sporty woman and was a gruelling athlete in sports when she was a young. Her natural ability to perform was a perfect complement to her interest in sports. She was awarded nearly all Feis Award for Theatre and Drama which her nation had to give. The Abbey Theater was her first choice. Abbey Theater by age 14 as she continued to pursue her dream of opera as well as classical theatre and singing.
