Katja Herbers was born in Germany and was the daughter of Vera Beths, a violinist and Werner Herbers, an oboist. When she was a child She was with her mother when she went to America for a tour with the chamber ensemble L'Archibudelli. She met the theatre as her father Leonie Poliak and Annerbylsma, a cellist got married. As a child, she was an au pair in Canada, and learned Dutch German and English.
